Real numbers for a 2,000-point army, and what moves them up or down.
A 2,000-point Warhammer 40,000 army painted to a clean tabletop standard costs between $800 and $2,400 at Rank & File, depending on the level you pick and how many big models are in the list. Most armies land in the middle of that range with Battle Ready for the line units and Hero Grade for two or three characters.
Across the industry the spread is much wider. Budget overseas studios quote $5 to $12 a model but add international shipping both ways, customs and duties, and months of transit. US studios commonly run $10 to $25 a model for the same standard. The per-model prices below are published, so you can price your own list before you send it.

Level. Parade Ready is roughly double Battle Ready and is where most people who want the army to hold up in the hand end up. Mixing levels within one order is normal: line troops at Battle Ready, elites at Parade Ready, characters at Hero Grade.
Big models. Vehicles and monsters scale from the infantry rate, so an army of 20 infantry and four tanks costs more than 60 infantry with none.
Assembly and printing. Models on sprue add $0.25 to $4 each to build. STL files add $3 to $4 a model to print. Kits we buy for you come in at 8% under retail.
Basing. From $0.50 a model for painted sand to $3+ for scenic or custom printed bases. Scenic at $2 is the one most armies pick.
